Abstract

Textbook analysis checklist is really needed for the language teachers to make sure that the textbook used for delivering the current curriculum standards matches to the students’ language input needs, students’ social-cultural background, linguistic needs and interests, learning facilities and learning source. A textbook plays the most important role for promoting the students’ successfulness in learning English in non-native speaker country. Through this research, the textbook cehklist was designed based on the completely principles of standardized teaching material development proposed by Tomlinson (2013) and the Indonesian curriculum-adopted principles. The data in the forms of English teachers’ perceptions on the urgency of each textbook aspect and teaching methodology were collected using a set of questionnaire and open interview to the teachers, who join in SMA/MA tecahers’ association in Lombok, Indonesia. The data were analyzed with descriptive methods in ongoing and overall analysis process. The results showed 86.86% teachers strongly agree with the aspect and indicators of the SMP/MTs/ SMA/MA/SMK textbook analysis checklist.
