Abstract
The purpose of this study was to describe the secondary modeling system, semiosphere, extratext relationships, and the teaching materials of Dewi Rengganis story. The approaches used were the
structural and ethnographical approach while the method used was descriptive. The method of data collection was conducted by listening, interviewing, making transcription, and taking notes. The method of data analysis was carried out in four stages of data collection, data reduction, conclusion making, and data presentation. The data analysis was adjusted to Lotman's semiotic theory of semantic fields that made up the secondary modeling system, semiosphere, and extratext texts. The data analysis showed that the story of Dewi Rengganis was formed by the semiosphere in the form of the following semantic fields: subtle vs.n rough, reason vs. lust, women vs. men, supernatural vs. physical, ghost (jin) vs. human, hybrid vs. pure, and Islam vs. non-Islamic. The archeseme or the highest semantic field to which all semantic elements of the Dewi Rengganis story was subtle vs. rough. The extratextual data showed that there were the similarities and differences between the textual elements of the Dewi Rengganis story and the extratextual elements in the form of Lombok cultural data where the Dewi Rengganis story lived. Those similarities and differences shaped the aesthetic narrative of Dewi Rengganis' story. The results of this study were applicable to be used as teaching materials in learning folklore in the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program at the University of Mataram.
